An exploration in texture.

I am a sculptor, artist and designer, working in Newbury, Massachusetts.

I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and later received my MFA from Vermont College. I am a longtime artist in many mediums and styles.

I am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsman, design for the import gift company Mariposa, take commissions for personalized gravestones, and carve extraordinary wall pieces from repurposed slate roofing tiles.

This site shows many examples of my slate work. I carve into the tiles using sunken relief, cutting through the patina, gaining contrast by revealing the newer fresher stone. I sometimes add mixed media elements, carving and adding a gilded faux frame around the work or other embellishments. The textures found in various repurposed slate weathered roofing shingles reveal a history evidenced in scars, scratches and nail holes acquired in their former utilitarian life.

My themes are from nature, primarily the ocean and air. Often I focus on our humbler overlooked fellow creatures, employing humor in my work.

Each piece has a wood backing with a hanging wire so that it sits straight and proud of the wall. Larger pieces can create a distinctive focal point in a kitchen or shower. There are many possibilities on how to showcase these one of kind pieces. I take special commissions and can create a unique creation with your vision in mind.
